I’ve been a happy ScanSnap owner for more than 5 years. I use my iX500 practically every day and when I travel, my iX100 is always in my carry-on bag. They’re both important tools of my trade, which I rely on to be easy-to-use and reliable.

In case you missed it, ScanSnap recently released a new feature. It’s something I didn’t realize was missing from my life until I started using it. It’s called ScanSnap Cloud. With ScanSnap Cloud, you can send scanned items directly to your favorite cloud service without the need for a computer or mobile device. Yes, you heard me right – WITHOUT a computer or mobile device.

How do you get up and running? First off, make sure your iX100 or iX500 scanner is connected to your network via Wi-Fi. Say bye bye to the cable, it’s no longer needed. Then, okay you’ll need your computer a little bit longer, but just to install the software and set up your preferences.

Speaking of preferences, now it’s time to ask yourself a few questions. Would you like your documents or receipts to go straight to DropBox, Evernote, Microsoft OneDrive or Expensify? If so, just click and select the cloud service of your choice. Do you have photos you’d like to scan and backup? Same thing, just click and select the cloud service you want the images to automatically go to. Mine go to Google Photos. After you set up the preferences, you can consider yourself computerless. From then on just hit the scan button and like magic your items go into your designated folders, no computer necessary.

Recently, I was away from my office, and I needed some important papers that I had left behind. The new cloud functionality really got me out of a jam. I had my office partner scan the document via my scanner and within seconds the papers appeared in my Dropbox account. I simply opened the Dropbox app on my phone, and I had the important papers with me.

Oh boy – rock’em, sock’em and ScanSnap Cloud saved the day!
