How to Archive Your Holiday Cards with ScanSnap and Evernote
Every year as I go through all of my holiday décor boxes at home, I stumble upon holiday cards and pictures I have saved that were sent from friends over the years. Many of these cards include personal messages and photos that I never have the heart to toss out. In my quest to declutter many areas of my home, this year I decided to archive all of those past years’ cards by scanning them all with my ScanSnap S1500M to my Evernote account. Storing these images in my Evernote account will allow me to keep a record of these holiday mementos in digital format – you can also scan to a folder on your computer or another application to archive these keepsakes.
Within Evernote you are able to create different notebooks; I created one called “Cards” and followed the directions on how to scan to Evernote. I adjusted the ScanSnap manager settings to scan to jpeg for those picture images that I wanted to store as a jpeg. Also, for any delicate photos or cards and glitter decorated cards, I use the ScanSnap Carrier Sheet to protect the document and my ScanSnap.
As you can see I have saved 15 cards in my Evernote repository and have a lot more scanning to do given that my card pile is comprised of 200+ cards that I have saved over the past decade. Hopefully I will receive even more this year.
Once this project is complete, the space that was allotted for these holiday cards in my storage boxes will allow me to store all the new holiday décor I will collect this year. By the way, this is a tip that you could use all year round for birthday cards and other sentimental greeting cards.
What personal mementos do you scan around your home? Feel free to share your story in our “Tell Us How You’ll ScanSnap” promotion here.
