Using ScanSnap with Recollect to Scan Receipts
I have been in the habit of scanning my receipts lately because the ScanSnap makes it easy and I no longer misplace the little credit card receipts. This came in handy recently.
My son, who plays several sports in high school, ordered his Letterman jacket from our local sports store, Chick’s Sporting Goods. I paid for the jacket and embroidery up front. Upon returning home, I scanned the receipt using my ScanSnap into the bills folder on my computer.
Three weeks later, after getting a call the jacket was finished, we returned to the store to pick up the jacket. We were surprised to see major construction in the store; workers were painting and building new fixtures and displays. Chick’s had been purchased by Dick’s Sporting Goods, and the store was being remodeled. Apparently so were the billing systems which of course had no record of my having paid in full for the jacket and the embroidery.
I came home and started up my PC. I right-clicked on the Recollect Desktop icon in the menu bar of my computer and selected “Find.”
In the content search window, I typed in “Chick’s” and clicked on the “Find Now” button.
In seconds, a PDF image document showed up in the hit grid. I double-clicked and there was the Chick’s receipt I scanned on my ScanSnap three weeks prior. A visual confirmation was provided by Recollect, highlighting the words “Chick’s” in red on the receipt for me.
I then selected “Open” from the Recollect Desktop file menu. Recollect automatically fetched the original PDF for me so I could print a copy and take it back to the store.
I took the receipt back to the store and my son walked out the proud owner of his Letterman jacket!
