In January, Fujitsu added to its already revolutionary ScanSnap document scanner line with the introduction of the ScanSnap iX500. The new scanner built on the ScanSnap tradition of innovating to meet your evolving needs; it was easy to install, fast, and equipped with features that let today’s PC and Mac users take advantage of the advanced scanning functions.

Across the last seven months it was clear to us the iX500 met a wide range of needs in an even wider range of businesses and lifestyles – from legal to personal organization, real estate to accounting – but one thing it was missing was the ability to scan wirelessly to a PC or Mac.

At ScanSnap, we do our best to listen to feedback and incorporate it back into the product. Over the last seven months we have listened to your feedback and today we are

very happy to announce all users of the iX500 will receive a new software update providing the ability to wirelessly scan documents to a PC or Mac, expanding the capabilities of its built-in Wi-Fi connectivity. You already have the ability to scan directly to Android and iOS compatible devices, and now you have the freedom to “cut the cord” from your computer without losing any of iX500’s advanced scanning functionality.

With wireless connectivity, you can now place the iX500 away from your computer, such as in the kitchen or a different room in the office, and still utilize all of the scanners’ tools, just as if it were connected via USB.

New and current iX500 customers have received or will see an online update notification from ScanSnap Manager that will take them through the step-by-step process of creating an optional wireless connection between iX500 and their computer using their existing wireless router. They can also check for an update manually using the ScanSnap help menu. Further instructions on how to obtain the update can be found here.

More on the iX500

What can the iX500 do?

Fast scanning: In today’s fast-paced world, no one wants to wait long for a scanning job to finish and with the iX500 you don’t have to. The ScanSnap iX500 can scan and create PDF files at speeds of up to 25 double-sided, color or monochrome pages per minute. That’s a 25 percent increase in speed compared to its predecessor.

Enhanced paper handling : We took the advanced paper feeding technology that’s in our professional-grade scanners and put it into the ScanSnap iX500, which delivers exceptional feeding reliability using our “Separation Roller” technology to minimize paper jams and multi-feeds.

A customizable “Quick Menu”: The ScanSnap iX500 menu can be customized to fit the way you work. From the Quick Menu you can scan directly to cloud services, email your PDF, or turn your scanned document into an editable Word or Excel file. You can create a “Favorites” menu to refine your selections, or add other applications that you normally scan into such as Photoshop.

The ScanSnap iX500 includes software that people have come to expect with our ScanSnap products. For example, you can use the ABBYY FineReader software to convert paperwork into an editable Word or Excel file in just seconds. If you collect a lot of business cards, use the CardMinder software for PC or Mac to scan, extract, and export business card information—making it easy to get rid of those stacks of cards taking up space on your desk.

Of course, the ScanSnap iX500 also has all the core functions that people need for their scanning tasks, like automatic paper size detection, color detection, de-skew and orientation, as well as those features you have grown to love and rely on like Scan to Evernote, Dropbox, SugarSync or GoogleDocs and ScanSnap Folder.

We hope you enjoy the new wireless functionality!
