The ScanSnap team is touting a network scanner as one of its own for the first time.  Today, we’re introducing the addition of the Fujitsu ScanSnap Network fi-6010N iScanner to the ScanSnap family of scanning solutions.  The new Network Scanner, formerly known as the “Fujitsu fi-6010N,” includes a networked option for ScanSnap and provides users with easy touch screen operation, a customized, familiar interface, simplified device deployment, and seamless integration with existing business systems.  With the ScanSnap fi-6010N iScanner, users can easily scan and share information on the network to streamline business operations, reduce operating costs and enhance work processes.

Here’s a first look at how it works.

Easy Touch Screen Operation
More than ever we find that our document scanner customers are demanding high-function, yet easy to use hardware and software.  The dedicated-use scanning device that ScanSnap fi-6010N iScanner delivers has a high level of functionality – including scan to email, folder, FTP, network fax, and network printer – that offers users several destination options for their scanned images.  Additionally, with a large, bright 8.4 inch touch screen, large buttons and an integrated US101 keyboard, scanning documents with the ScanSnap fi-6010N iScanner is extremely straight-forward.

Check out the Main Menu screen:

Customized, Familiar Interface
For an additional level of customization, the ScanSnap fi-6010N iScanner offers Job Menus, which are simple to create and extremely flexible.  Custom user interface Job Menu touch screens are based on the user’s login information.  For example, Joe in accounting might see an ‘Accounts Payable’ touch screen, while Jane in the shipping department would see ‘Transportation’ touch screens.  Moreover, Job Buttons can be pre-configured to send to predetermined destinations with fixed scanner settings to avoid possible transmission errors.

Here’s what the Job Menu screen looks like:

Simplified Device Deployment
By virtue of being directly connected to the network at all times, the ScanSnap fi-6010N iScanner comes with Central Admin Server (CAS) software which allows for simplified deployment and easier ongoing maintenance.  To demonstrate this, I like to ask customers to un-box their brand new iScanner.  I then I point to a pre-configured Central Admin Server.  And viola!  The new scanner automatically inherits all system settings, job menus and configurations within seconds.

It also frees up time otherwise spent on software installations or occasional calls to your technician.  Modification or updating the ScanSnap fi-6010N iScanners on the network consists of simply updating the CAS once, and all the iScanners on the network will be updated simultaneously.

Here’s how the ScanSnap fi-6010N iScanner’s CAS works:

Seamless Integration with Existing Business Systems
When you need to use more than just the Main Menu or Job Menu features, you can choose from one of the many third party solutions from our leading technology partners; these solutions are built with the optional ScanSnap fi-6010N iScanner Software Developer’s Kit (SDK).  The solutions allow for ‘tagging’ of scanned images that are then sent directly into backend Enterprise Content Management (ECM) repositories, Line of Business (LOB) applications or even Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.  By ‘tagging’ or indexing the images, users can create the relevant keywords that make document retrieval from their system relevant to their search.

With the ability to create integrated solutions, the ScanSnap fi-6010N iScanner offers something appealing to everyone.  Find out what it provides to general users, business managers, network administrators, and software application developers.
