Updating your Business Card Contacts Using ScanSnap and Cardiris Software for Mac
With ScanSnap and Cardiris, business card scanning on your Mac is a snap! Every ScanSnap scanner comes complete with a suite of productivity tools including ScanSnap Manager where customized one click profiles can be easily configured, ABBYY Fine Reader (now available with the new S1300 mobile scanner) to enable scanning to .xls and .doc file formats, as well as Cardiris business card software to enable business cards to be digitized and contact information captured & sent directly to Address Book, Entourage, or exported as HTML or vCard. Best of all, it’s simple to use, even if you are a new Mac user like me – ScanSnap and Cardiris take all of the complications out of the daunting task of keeping up on your contacts – because we all have better things to do. Here is a step by step tutorial to help rid you of that pile of business cards you stare at every day on your desk.
STEP 1: With the ScanSnap Quick Menu enabled, scan business cards using an S1300 or S1500M ScanSnap scanner. Click on the Cardiris icon as shown below.
Once Cardiris launches, an image of the card will be displayed and if possible, the application will extract the applicable contact information & populate the appropriate fields.
Additional notes can also be manually entered, if you wish to do so.
To select the proper file format and output destination, simply choose ‘Output Format’ under the settings menu as shown below.
Using the drop-down list, highlight the format desired, for example: Address Book (note that if TEXT, HTML, or vCard are selected, an output destination prompt will appear).
With the desired output source selected, simply highlight the cards to be exported and click “send.” In this example, the business card information will be sent directly to Address Book.
That’s it! Simply check Address Book for any newly entered contacts and they will be there. Now you can sync your contacts with your iPad, iPhone, or MacBook & you’ll never have to go back to the paper cards!
So there you have it. In just 5 easy steps, all your business card contacts are in Address Book. Now there’s no excuse for that stack of business cards that keeps falling over on your desk.
