Does Fujitsu have a Scanner/Printer Multi-Function Device?
Over the past few years, I’ve been traveling around the country showing ScanSnap at trade shows, technology fairs, user groups, and sometimes even on the plane to and from these different events, and every once in awhile I get this question. I actually wonder why I don’t get it more often given the proliferation of Multi-Function Printers. The short answer to your question is no, but let me give you some background as to why Fujitsu hasn’t gone the MFP route.
First, let me just say that the desktop MFP is really convenient. I own one (came free as a rebate with my last computer) and it certainly does have its value. From our perspective, we see the value in dedicated technology, meaning that the engineering within ScanSnap, from start to finish, is completely focused on the scanning experience in terms of ease-of-use and reliability. More to the point here, its strength in scanning isn’t compromised to support other unrelated functions. I’m pretty sure this is at the root of why people often say to me that they’re just not satisfied with their MFPs for scanning documents and give up trying to be more paperless. When it comes to keeping up with the task of eliminating paper clutter day-in-and-day-out, the robust features within the ScanSnap helps to achieve just that.
