How do I use Scan to Email with my ScanSnap scanner? (Windows)

To use the Scan to e-mail function with your ScanSnap Windows series follow these steps:
A. Select your e-mail software:

  1. Navigate to your computers [Control Panel] > [Internet Options] > [Programs].
  2. Select the e-mail software you would like to use then press [OK].

Special Note: The following e-mail applications have been verified to work with the Scan to E-mail function:

  • Microsoft® Windows Mail (in Windows Vista)
  • Microsoft® Outlook 2003/2007/2010
  • Microsoft® Outlook Express V6.0
  • Thunderbird Version 3.0.4 (Launch Thunderbird in advance; it must stand ready to send/receive e-mail messages.)

B. Configure ScanSnap Manager to use Scan To E-mail:
There are two ways to select the Scan to E-mail function.

  1. Enable the Quick Menu or
  2. Disable Quick Menu, go to the applications tab and select Scan To E-mail

C. Get ready to scan:
With Quick Menu Enabled: (Quick Menu will launch after pages are scanned)

  1. Double click the ScanSnap manager icon in the task-bar and a window will appear (ScanSnap manager settings).
  2. Select quick menu (Quick menu will have a check mark next to it when it is enabled.)
  3. Close the ScanSnap manager settings.
  4. Load paper in the scanner.
  5. Press the scan button on your scanner.
  6. After pages are scanned, the Quick Menu will launch.
  7. Click on the Scan To E-mail function.
  8. Preview the scanned document, rename the file if necessary.
  9. Click [Attach].
  10. The PDF file should now be attached onto the newly opened e-mail.


With Quick Menu Disabled:(Once paper is scanned, the Scan To E-mail window will open.)

  1. Double click the ScanSnap manager icon in the task-bar and a window will appear (ScanSnap manager settings).
  2. De-select quick menu. (Quick menu will not have a check mark next to it when it is disabled.)
  3. On the Application tab, use the drop down arrow and choose Scan To E-mail and click Apply.
  4. Close the ScanSnap manager settings.
  5. Load paper in the scanner.
  6. Press the scan button on the scanner.
  7. Preview the scanned document, rename the file if necessary.
  8. Click [Attach].
  9. The PDF file should now be attached onto the newly opened e-mail.
